Grilled BBQ Turkey Drumsticks

If your like me when your carving up your turkey at Christmas there is never enough dark meat to go around. So, this Christmas I have a plan to add some grilled BBQ turkey drumsticks into the mix for Christmas dinner. Who knows this just might become a Christmas tradition in our house.

So when I thought about making these grilled BBQ turkey legs the first thought I had was people walking around the fairs and festivals with those gigantic yummy looking drumsticks. I mean really they look so perfect you wonder if they are real or not. So that is what I am looking for a nice crispy golden brown outer crust with a nice juicy dark meat center, and I don’t want it to take 6 hours to cook like my turkey. So, I am going to boil the turkey drumsticks and then finish them on the BBQ.

Ingredients

Grilled BBQ Turkey drumsticks

8 Turkey drumsticks

2 lemons

1 lime

1 stick of butter

2 large onions

The Cover Guy Turkey Drumstick Rub

1 tablespoon dried sage

1 tablespoon dried paprika

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon crushed red pepper

2 tablespoon dehydrated onion

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

6 tablespoons salt

Directions

  1. In a large pot of boiling salted water add your turkey drumsticks. Boil for 30 to 45 mins. or until the internal temperature is 180 F
  2. Melt the butter and mix in the juice of your lemons and lime. Baste the turkey drumsticks with the liquid.
  3. mix all dry ingredients together and coat the basted turkey drumsticks thoroughly.
  4. On a preheated medium high heat BBQ grill lay out sliced onions and place the spiced turkey legs on top of them.
  5. turn often and watch that the turkey drumsticks do not burn, about 20 mins. or until golden brown.

The Cover Guy wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season!
