For those that have always wanted a hot tub, but have always been concerned about the electric bill there are a few things that you can do to create a relaxing oasis that you have always dreamed about. There are a few minor adjustments that you can make in order to make maintaining a hot tub much less costly than what you may expect.
Adjust the Temperature
Just like you may do in your own home, consider taking the temperature down a couple of degrees. You will be surprised at how much money you can save by decreasing your temperature slightly. While you probably won’t feel the difference when you slip in the water, you certainly will see the difference eon your next utility bill.
Turn it Off
Some people assume that you always have to have your hot tub in full swing no matter if you are using it or not. This is simply not the case. In fact, if you are not using your hot tub you should totally shut it down.
Purchase a Cover
A cover not only protects your hot tub, but can also act as additional insulation. This way, you are shielding your hot tub from debris and also keeping heat in so that you are not having to use energy. Plus, it is highly recommended that if you have a hot tub that you purchase a cover as well because it prolongs the longevity of your spa.
Replace the filter
The filter can actually become clogged over time and work more than usual. When the filter has to work more it is using up more energy than is necessary. Replacing your filter can certainly save you a bundle!
Creating windbreaks can keep the cool air away from your hot tub. You may want to consider planting bushes or even installing a fence near your hot tub. This will cut down on how much wind exposure reaches your hot tub so that the water is able to stay warmer.
These are just a few simple things that you can do to make your hot tub less costly. Doing just a few of these things will drastically reduce your energy bill so that you can start really enjoying your hot tub instead of having to worry about how much it costs you to relax.
