Artesian Spas Error Codes, Information, and Owners Manual

Artesian Spas

Artesian Spas is co-owned by two experts in the spa industry. Between them, they have accrued more than 100 years of combined manufacturing experience with spa products. Their extensive history with spas inspired them to create special features that are not available from most other spa manufacturers. For example, there are many eco-friendly features that come standard in each hot tub, and there are also additional green upgrades available.

Artesian Spas has been making spas for consumers since 1997, and they have been an accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2011. This manufacturer also places an emphasis on offering spas for luxury and hydrotherapy purposes, and they offer easily portable designs. Artesian Spas sells spa products in more than 65 countries, and they are based out of Las Vegas. The company also makes spas in a wide variety of price ranges, and this also enables consumers of various backgrounds and needs to take advantage of the many advantages that are associated with soaking in a hot tub.

Artesian Spa Error Codes

These are the error codes and display messages that the 2015 Platinum Elite, Tidal Fit and Island Spa models may display, along with what they mean and the action required:                                                             

Most messages and alerts for the Artesian Spas will appear at the bottom of the normally used screens. Several alerts and messages may be displayed in sequence. Some messages can be reset from the panel. Message that can be reset will appear with a “right arrow” at the end of the message. This message can be selected by navigating to it and pressing the select button.

Artesian Spas General Message

Message Meaning Action Required
– – –°F – – –°C Means that the temperature of the water is unknown. When the pump has been running for a total of 1 minute, the temperature is displayed.
Possible freezing condition Means the equipment has detected potentially freezing condition to the unit. All of the water devices are then activated. The pumps may cycle on and off in some cases, and the heater may function during Freeze Protection. This is not an error indication but an operational message.
M029-The water is too hot Means the spa system has detected that the water temp is 110°F (43.3°C) or more, thus disabling spa functions. Once the spa water temperature is below 108°F (42.2°C), the system will auto reset. Conduct verification checks for high ambient temperatures and also extended pump operation. During the summertime (warmer months) it is suggested to also change the duration of the filter cycle in order to keep the spa unit from overheating during high ambient temperatures.

 

Artesian Spas Heater-Related Messages

Message Meaning Action Required
M016-The water flow is low Means there may not be sufficient enough water flow through the heater to carry heat away from the unit’s heating element. After 1 minute, the heater start up begins again. See box for “Flow Related Checks” down below.
m017-The water flow has failed* Means there may not be sufficient enough water flow through the heater to carry heat away from the unit’s heating element, and the system has disabled the heater. See box for “Flow Related Checks” down below. Once the issue is taken care of, press any button to reset and to begin the startup mode of the heater.
M028-The heater may be dry* Means there is a possibility of dry heater or an insufficient amount of water in the heater in order to start it. The spa system will shut down for 15 minutes. Press any of the buttons in order to reset heater start-up. See box for “Flow Related Checks” down below.
M027 The heater is dry* Indicates that there isn’t a sufficient amount of water in the heater in order to start it. The system shuts the spa down. Once the issue is resolved, clear the message in order to restart the heater startup. Also see the box for “Flow Related Checks” down below.
Flow-Related Checks Check to see dirty filters, low water levels, suction flow restrictions, too many closed jets, pump primed and trapped air.

 

Artesian Spas Sensor-Related/Miscellaneous Messages

Message Meaning Action Required
M030-The heater is too hot Means one of the temp sensors for the water has detected a temp of 118°F (47.8°C) inside the heater.  The system also shuts the spa down. Once water temp is below 108°F (42.2°C), you must clear the message.
Flow-Related Checks Check to see dirty filters, low water levels, also suction flow restrictions, or too many closed jets. See if the pump is primed and if there is also trapped air.
Artesian Spas Sensor Related Messages
M015-Sensors out of Sync Indicates temp sensors  are probably out of sync. Contact your dealer to service unit.
M026-Sensors ARE out of sync System has determined temp sensors are out of sync. Contact your dealer to service unit.
M031-Sensor A Fault, M032-Sensor B Fault The sensor circuit or temperature sensor has failed. Contact your dealer to service unit.

Artesian Spas Miscellaneous Messages

Communications error Control panel isn’t receiving communication from the system. Contact your dealer to service unit.
Test software installed The spa unit’s control system is functioning with test software. Contact your dealer to service unit.
°F or °C is replaced by °T The spa unit’s control system is operating in Test Mode. Contact your dealer to service unit.

 

Artesian Spas System-Related Messages

Message Meaning Action Required
M022-Program memory failure Contact your dealer to service unit.
M021-Settings have been reset   Contact your dealer to service unit. if this particular message comes up more than once when the unit is powering up.
M020-The clock has failed   Contact your dealer to service unit.
Configuration error (Spa isn’t starting up)   Contact your dealer to service unit.
GFCI test has failed (The spa unit system was unable to test the GFCI) Can indicate installation is unsafe. (North America Only) Contact your dealer to service unit.
M034-A pump may be stuck on Means a condition where the water may have overheated. SHUT DOWN THE POWER TO THE SPA. DO NOT GO IN THE WATER. Contact your dealer to service unit.
M035-Hot fault Spa pump most likely is Stuck ON when the the spa was last powered. SHUT DOWN THE POWER TO THE SPA. DO NOT GO IN THE WATER. Contact service organization or your dealer.

 

Artesian SpasReminder Messages

Message Meaning Action Required
Check the pH May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 7 days. Check pH levels with test kit. Adjust pH with applicable chemicals needed.
Check the sanitizer May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 7 days. Check sanitizer levels and chemistry of the water with test kit and adjust with applicable chemicals needed.
Clean filter May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 30 days. Clean inside filter media per manufacturer’s instructions.
Test the GFCI May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 30 days. The GFCI or RCD is a critical safety device, and this also must be tested as part of a preventive maintenance schedule to verify reliability. Users should be trained to safely test the RCD or GFCI associated with the installation of hot tub.
Change the water May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 90 days. Alerts you to change water in the spa unit regularly in order to maintain sanitary conditions and also the right chemical balance.
Clean the cover May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 180 days. For maximum life, the vinyl hot tub covers also need to be cleaned and conditioned.
Change the filter May appear on maintenance schedule – for instance, every 365 days. Alerts you to replace filters occasionally in order to promote sanitary conditions and proper spa functions.

2015 South Seas and Garden Spa models may display, along with what they mean and the action required:

Message Meaning Action Required
– – Means that the temperature of the water is unknown. When the pump has been running for a total of 2 minutes, the temperature is displayed.
HH Stands for “Overheat”- and the tub shuts down. One of the sensors detected  temperatures of 118°F (47.8°C) at the location of the heater. DO NOT GET INTO THE WATER. Take off the spa cover to allow the water to cool down. Once the water has cooled down, you can also reset by pushing any button. Shut the power down to the hot tub and contact the dealer or service company if the hot tub won’t reset.
OH Stands for “Overheat”- and the tub shuts down. One of the sensors detected  that the water in the hot tub is 110°F (43.3°C). DO NOT GET INTO THE WATER. Take off the spa cover to allow the water to cool down. The hot tub should automatically reset for a temp of 107°F (41.7°C). Shut the power down to the hot tub and contact the dealer or service company if the hot tub won’t reset.
IC Stands for “Ice”- The system has detected a potential condition for freeze. No action is needed. The blower and pumps activate automatically in spite of the status of the hot tub unit.
SA Means the hot tub unit has been shut down. The sensor plugged into sensor “A” jack is malfunctioning. Contact the dealer or service company if you continue to see this problem. Keep in mind this error may display itself temporarily also in situations of overheating. It should disappear when the heater cools off.
Sn Means that the sensors are not in balance. May just be a temporary condition if it is alternating with temperature. If it is flashing by itself, it means that the hot tub unit has also been shut down. Contact the dealer or service company for the hot tub unit to be serviced if the problem continues.
HFL or HL Means that a significant difference has been detected between the temperature sensors. This code could signify the unit has a flow problem. Check the level of the water in hot tub unit and refill levels if needed. Make sure the pump has also been primed if you see that the water levels are adequate.  If the problem continues, contact the dealer or service company.
LF Means low flow problems are persistent. This error code will display the fifth time that the “HFL” message occurs within 24 hours. With this error, the heater will shut down, but other functions of the hot tub will continue to function normally. Take same action steps needed for the “HFL” message. The Heating capacity of the hot tub unit also won’t automatically reset, but you can press any of the buttons to reset manually.
dr Means that there may not be enough water, poor flow or that air bubbles have been found in heater. Spa will shut down for 15 minutes. Check the hot tub’s water levels, and refill as needed. If checks indicate the water level is adequate, ensure the pumps are also primed. You can also press any of the buttons to reset manually, or the message automatically will reset itself before 15 minutes is up. If the problem continues, contact the dealer or service company.
dY Means that a condition of inadequate water has been detected in the heater. Spa will shut down. Take same actions steps used for dr. Spa unit won’t automatically reset, but you can press any of the buttons to reset manually.
