How Much Time Does it Take to Maintain a Hot Tub?

Before purchasing a hot tub, it is important to consider how much responsibility goes along with maintaining it. While none of the functions that you must complete are necessarily time consuming, they are things that you must do on a regular basis.

Check Water

It is absolutely critical that you keep an eye on what your hot tub water looks like. It is suggested that even if you do not soak in your hot tub that you at least take a look at the water every two days. If you see a sudden change in the water’s appearance then it may be time to do a chemical treatment.

Strip Tests

Strip tests should be done every two weeks. These tests will indicate the chemical balance and also let you know if you need to add chemicals into the water. Remember, that it is important that the hot tub water is balanced as this promotes sanitation.

Conditioning

Don’t forget to spray the cover of your hot tub with a conditioning solution. This will keep your cover in good shape by protecting it against the sun. UV rays can cause cracking and hardening on the surface. This should be completed once per month.

Clean Surface

Each couple of weeks you should take about half an hour wiping down your entire hot tub. A simple concoction of water and detergent can keep your hot tub in good working condition and free of dirt and grime.

Overall Evaluation

Each month you should take a look at your hot tub. Check the locks, make sure the cover fits snug, and check the outside of the hot tub for any damages. It’s a good idea to get into a habit of doing a thorough evaluation of your hot tub so that you can pinpoint problem areas faster and perhaps save your hot tub from major repairs.

These simple suggestions do not take much time to complete, but they should be done on a regular basis. It’s a good idea to put a reminder on a calendar so that you don’t forget those tasks that occur only a few times a month. Owning a hot tub does mean that you do have to spend time on the upkeep, but if you do it consistently enough then you will save yourself from having to do lengthy repairs in the future.
