How Should I Get Rid Of A Used Hot Tub?

Our customers often ask us the best way to get rid of a used hot tub.  In our opinion, there is always a market for used appliances.  There are often hundreds of consumers in any given region looking for a hot tub.  And many of them are open to paying a reasonable price, given that the unit is in good condition.

The best way to sell yours is by listing it on popular classified websites like Craigslist and Kijiji.  Check out the going-rate for used hot tubs in your area and price yours accordingly.  Although the units online may not be exactly the same as yours, size and cleanliness are easily comparable factors.  One of the main concerns for potential buyers is the delivery issue.  Some buyers may not own a car or may be wary about the pick-up process in general.  If you own a suitable vehicle (or are open to renting one), offer shipping arrangements as this is considered a “perk” for most buyers.

As tempting as it is to seek monetary compensation for your used hot tub, you may run into a scenario where the unit is just not sellable.  In this case, find companies that are willing to take your used appliance away free-of-charge or for a small fee.  These companies often strip hot tubs for used parts and recycle the rest.

Another way to get rid of a used hot tub is to contact your municipal office and have the sanitation department take it away.  For a one-time fee, you can arrange for the city to take your unit away.  In this case, you will have to remove the hot tub from its existing foundation and put it out on your front curb.  We don’t recommend leaving it out on the street in the hopes that an interested straggler will take it away.  Municipalities impose hefty fines/penalties for trash that is not discarded properly.

Regardless of whether you sell your used hot tub online or send it away to the trash-fairy, do some preliminary research to see which option is best for you.  And remember, there is no consumer out there that is willing to buy a filthy unit.  If your hot tub is in poor condition, save yourself the hassle and send it to the dump instead.
